As drivers of growth and innovation, the tech community in Nigeria faces numerous challenges that most businesses and entrepreneurs have to deal with.

However, the community has been at the forefront of drawing attention to talents from Nigeria.

Just recently,  Babymigo, a Nigerian startup, was named by TIME Magazine as part of its 50 Most Genius Companies of 2018.

Babymigo, founded by Nigerian entrepreneur, Adeloye Olanrewaju, was selected for creating a digital community for new mothers and pregnant women, providing assistance and education.

The startup’s app has so far been downloaded 30,000 times and has 90,000 users.

Annually, TIME Magazine’s network of editors and correspondents from across the world nominate and choose innovative companies for the 50 Genius Companies list.

Describing the startup, TIME Magazine wrote:“Every day, approximately 830 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth— 99% of them in developing countries such as Nigeria, where lack of education is as much a cause as poor health care.

“Local entrepreneur Adeloye Olanrewaju wanted to help alleviate the problem with an SMS subscription service for pregnant women that informed them of prenatal appointments and their babies’ development.”

Babymigo is one of the startups that received $10,000 grant and mentoring from Google’s Africa Launchpad Accelerator programme.
