Just a week after the elections that swept long-standing President Issa Hayatou from power. Hicham El Amrani the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Secretary General tenders his resignation letter at the CAF meeting on Sunday and gave no reason for his decision.
The 37-year-old Moroccan had served as secretary general for the last six years.
Hayatou was defeated in an elections held in Ethiopia 10 days ago, where six of his allies on the body’s executive committee also lost their positions.
El Amrani’s resignation letter was tendered at the CAF meeting on Sunday where new President, Ahmad, chaired a meeting with staff of the organization at the CAF Secretariat in Cairo, Egypt.
The meeting marked his assumption of office following his election to the position during the 39th CAF Ordinary General Assembly on 16 March 2017 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
