22 Traders Died in a Ghastly Auto Crash in Kebbi


A fatal accident has occurred along the Tunga Giwa – Ruwa road in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi, claimed the lives of 22 traders Monday 20th March 2017.

It occurred when a Toyota Canter vehicle tried to avoid a pot-hole, hitting a motorcyclist and somersaulted then caught fire, killing the cyclist and 22 passengers in the van.

The Sole Administrator of Shanga, Garba Salihu, told Governor Atiku Bagudu that the traders were returning from Tungan Giwa market when the incident happened.

All 22 traders who were on board the van died and were buried in a mass grave yesterday. The Funeral was attended by the state governor, Abubakar Bagudu.

Eight other persons who sustained injuries in the accident are currently receiving treatment at the Yauri General Hospital.

Mr. Bagudu, who was on an official visit to the area, participated in the funeral prayer for the victims who were buried in a mass grave.

The governor sympathised with the survivors and pledged to settle their medical bills and render further assistance.
