Hear Word, a critically acclaimed Nigerian stage play, is embarking on an international tour to New York, California and Hamburg.
The play shares generational stories highlighting political, social and cultural factors that limit the lives of women.
The cast will begin the tour in Lagos with five shows at MUSON Center, then travel to New York, to perform six shows at the world-renowned Public Theater in New York from January 3-7.
The ensemble will then head to California, where they will perform at Segerstrom Center from January 10 to 12 before moving on to Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Germany.
The show stars top Nollywood actresses, including Joke Silva, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, Elvina Ibru, Ufuoma McDermott, Omonor, Zara Udofia-Ejoh, Rita Edward, Odenike, Debbie Ohiri and Oluchi Odii.
“The play is based on real-life experiences of Nigerian women, we aim to highlight their voices and hope to inspire real change,” said Ifeoma Fafunwa, director and co-writer of Hear Word.
The cast of Hear Word recently delivered sold-out performances at Harvard University’s Tony-prize winning American Repertory Theater.
The play is produced by iOpenEye, a Nigerian production company that utilises performance art to challenge the status quo and inspire social change.
